Revisiting Rosedale

September 1st, 2008

Rosedale United Sleeves

Last week, I needed the knitting equivalent of a pick me up. Sandra suggested I knit myself a Rosedale United, one that was destined to fit my 30-something frame better than the one I’d designed for my svelt mid-20s-self.

Let’s revisit, shall we?

Oh yeah. There I am. Five years younger and probably a good deal wiser. And a size 8. Good times.

Did you know that although this was published after the “original” Rosedale, I actually designed it first? I loved the idea of doing an intarsia rectangle like this more or less in the round. And as much as I love the Cardigan Version, the idea works much better in a pullover, in my opinion.

I don’t often go back and reknit my designs. I talk about doing it, almost all the time, but life has a way of getting in the way. I’m really enjoying this re-knit. It’s been a long time since I’ve knit a bottom-up raglan. And Silk Garden is such a fun yarn, frustratingly filled with knots may it be.

My progress is going pretty quickly. I’m done with the two sleeves (as you can see above) and am about 7 inches into the body. I expect to begin the waist increases and break the rectangle for the first time tonight while watching the Gossip Girl premiere.

Not that I don’t have Knitting of Obligation to do as well. But we’ll just forget about that for the night, k? Just like I’m planning on forgetting that the Boston Pizza Baked Tortellini does not have the same weight watchers points as the whole wheat linguini. Ahem.

Rosedale United was my very first REAL sweater (not made out of Lion Brand Homespun) and it’s still my favorite.

so strange… i was just drooling over this exact sweater on knitty wondering if when I’m finished with LR I’ll have enough skeins that are close enough in colorways to eek this out. LOVE your designs. A big thank you!

You know, I’ve had you on my bloglines for ages and had forgotten that you designed “Rosedale United.” That was the first (and to date, only) sweater I ever knitted, and I love it. I still tell people that if they want a good pattern with a great finished product, they need to try that one. And I get compliments when I wear it, too. 🙂

Are you sick of people’s finished Rosedale pics by now? If not, here’s mine:

As for re-knitting it–it was a fun knit, too, so hey! Good times!
