Every knitter’sdream

November 27th, 2008

A funny thing happened to me at lunch today. I went for my twice-weekly window-shop / walk / sushi-buying excursion down Stephen Ave. It’s kind of chilly out today, so I was wearing my new scarf. I stopped to wait for a light to change and this very well-dressed woman came up to me, brandishing her Holt Refrew bag.

“I love your scarf!” she exclaimed. “Where did you buy it? I have to go buy one today!”

I kind of looked at her for a minute. Buy a scarf? Really? And then I clued in.

She thought my very hand-made scarf was something worth purchasing, and worth paying big bucks for. She though I bought it.

Way cool.

Proudly, I said, “Nope. I made it. It’s cashmere.”

“Woaaaah….” she exhaled. “It’s beautiful.”

Ruffle Fluff Scarf

“I like it,” I said, and smiled, and told her that she basically made my day.

Ruffle Fluff Scarf

This was a fun scarf to design and knit. I used 2 skeins of 6ply Cashmere from Jade Sapphire, but you could use any worsted or aran-weight yarn, as long as it’s soft and can be encouraged to drape nicely. With just 300 yards and a couple of evenings, you too can get compliments from strangers.

As my thank you to you, dear readers, the pattern for the Ruffle Fluff Scarf is free for now, for sale later on Ravelry:

Thanks for the pattern. And what a great “gift” that woman gave you. I know that’s not why we knit, but it is nice when you get plaudits (and well-deserved ones) like that.

    Thanks for the beautiful pattern!

That compliment must have made your day.
I got a similar one this week for a cashmere shawl I knitted (Rustico, available on Ravelry). This woman knew right away that I had made it myself, she knows me…

Good luck for your challenges ahead!
