All the News that’sFit to Print (and thensome.)

December 8th, 2008

Xmas at eaton center

Whew.

What a week.

Let’s recap, shall we?

  • I packed everything I could fit into two big suitcases, a small suitcase, and a Ladybug box and schlepped myself across 1,677 miles of Canada.
  • I’ve slept in three different beds. (Ha ha, very funny. You know what I mean.)
  • I’ve discovered that not only is a hat absolutely necessary this time of year, but it apparently takes me three tries to knit one that actually fits. And it’s STILL a little big.
  • I’ve also discovered that my early birthday present of a blackberry is a true life saver. How can I feel lonely if I can view my twitter feed, check facebook, and send emails from anywhere? Seriously. Someone (ahem) accused me of being addicted. It’s not an addiction if it’s almost the only thing keeping me remotely sane and not a pool of missing-Sandra-and-the-doggies.
  • My new job rocks. It rocks. It’s filled with really cool people. SMART cool people. People who draw near-daily cartoons on the whiteboard in the hallway.  People who make christmas stockings for everyone, even the new folks, and decorate the office over the weekend. Expect more gushing as time goes on. It’s only been a week.

Dude, Moira at work made me a stocking.

In other news, I’ve been knitting. A lot. I’m on the streetcar a lot, and I have a lot of time to be places, alone, waiting. Like doing laundry this weekend at the laundromat. Thankfully, I was smart (?) enough to pack many UFOs when I moved here last weekend. Because I don’t have my whole stash here, it’s been easy to work on finishing up some of these long languishing projects.

Like these socks, started in July.

A sock and a Croc

See? A complete pair!

DK Delights Socks

Add to that a couple of hats, another new sock design, and half of another sock that no, does not match. And part of a cowl. I’ve been busy. But my head is now warm enough.

I’ve also been keeping really busy, thus the utter lack of updates of any kind. Last week, I knit at Lettuce Knit once and The Purple Purl twice. I went to the One of a Kind show. I’ve eaten out quite a bit, yet managed to cook my chipotle mexican penne last night in my wee (and shared) kitchen. I’ve talked about going to yoga. I’ve looked at schedules. And today, I even managed to schlep my yoga mat bag to work. Will I go? We’ll see. I’ve done a lot of walking. So much walking that my calves are permanently twinging in complaint.

Busy, for me, keeps me from noticing that I’m actually really lonely and homesick. I miss Sandra. And the dogs. And the kittens. And all the people I already know. Yet, there’s a great community here. I feel like I belong here already, which is a wonderful and precious thing to be feeling right now.
