Oh hai, Goal Weight

September 18th, 2009

This morning, the scale dipped below 150 for the first time in as long as I can remember.

Although I’ve been in a healthy BMI for the past four or five weeks, my goal since January has been under 150. And I did it. I did it! I did it!

Total pounds lost: 46
Highest size: 16
Lowest size: 6

It took me 9 months and 16 days, but I lost the bulk of the weight in the first three months. I did it by using weight watchers online, by cooking when I could, by eating salads with chicken or egg for lunch, and by walking everywhere I could possibly walk.

Big Cabled Sweater

I scoured my flickr and iPhoto for a suitable “before” photo. Surprise, surprise, I couldn’t find one. When you’re not happy with how you look, you tend to delete anything remotely unflattering. In my case, that included most shots that showed anything but just my face.

The above photo was probably 10 pounds lighter than my heaviest, but it should give the people who see me every day an idea of what I used to weigh.

And now?

Pardon the quick shot this morning. I’m on the way to taking Cooper to the vet again and just wanted this for documentation purposes more than anything….

Me today!

I’m excited for Monday’s official weigh in and seeing what weight watchers looks like from a maintenance perspective. This wasn’t easy, but it wasn’t nearly as hard as I’d have expected either. It just took time, and to not give up. That doesn’t mean that I didn’t eat everything I wanted. If I wanted wine, I had it. If I wanted cake, I had it. I just had to remember to not have treats constantly. To find balance with healthier yummy options like sushi and whole wheat pasta and veggies.

More than anything, the clothes kept me going. That first time going to the mall in early March to pick up some new special clothes was so motivating. I could go into almost any store, and things would actually fit. And before, I’d be lucky to find anything on the rack. If it fit, I used to buy it. Now, I get to be choosy.

So. That’s done. Goal achieved. And now, I can hopefully survive that half marathon in 2 weeks. And then enjoy a well deserved caribbean cruise in October with my new swimsuits.

  2. Karen Says:

Congratulations! I’m working on losing some weight as well and it’s amazing what you can do when you just pay more attention to your choices. I also have the benefit of the elevator in my building being out so six weeks of walking stairs has been a big help. Now the problem is going to be keeping that habit when they turn the new elevator on next week.

Good luck with Cooper this morning. I hope the vet can help him.

Congrats!! You are inspiring me to give WW a try again but this time online. I tried it once but the local meetings were not my thing. Hopefully their veg options have improved too. If not, I will go work with a nutritionist this time.

Thank you so much for posting this. I’m about a month into WW online, 15 pounds down and starting to despair of ever seeing a difference in myself… seeing how amazing you look after losing about half of what I’d like to lose helps to put things into perspective! Nice work!!!

  20. Julia in KW Says:

AWESOME! I have done the WW thing myself – lost 25 (goal), but alas! found 15 of them again…and they come and go…stick with tracking…when I don’t and get lacksidaisical, the pounds creep back on…perhaps I will try harder…cuz you look terrific.,..and happy about it, too!

    Congratulations!

Congrats on making your goal weight! I’ve been at my gym consistently for the last year & 1/2 & I’m down about 50 pounds. It’s hard work but totally worth it.

Do you think that what you knit for yourself will change now that you’re at your goal weight in maintenance mode? More fitted stuff?

I know I’m still knitting a lot of shawls rather than sweaters, but then I’m addicted to lace.

  26. HollyJo Says:
