A Nameless Hat
Many years ago, Sandra bought me a hat, mostly like this. Although I only started wearing it this year, it’s already my favorite, so I thought I’d work it up into a crochet pattern.
Yes. Crochet.
Despite authoring two crochet books and teaching loads of lessons, it’s something I’ve rarely done for designs or projects in the past few years. I just tend to gravitate more towards my knitting needles than crochet hooks these days.
I couldn’t be more thrilled how this design worked out, though. Totally addictively fun to work up, it’s also extremely fast in crochet. A few nights and you’re done. I used three colors of Mission Falls 1824 for this version, and am doing up a non-earflap version out of Kid Classic this weekend.
Look for the pattern to be released this weekend or early next week.
But first, I need a name. Any suggestions?
Edited to add: This is definitely intended to be a unisex pattern. The next version will be done in green/brown tones and guy-friendly. Name has to be appealing to all and non-color-specific.
Great suggestions so far – keep them coming!

I can’t come up with a name, but what a darn cute hat! I love those colours. They kind of take my mind off the crap winter weather.

It is a great looking hat – and one my daughter would love. I don’t have a clear vision for a name, but first glance made me think of blueberry crumble ice cream…

Cross Country was the first thing that popped into my head because it looks like a ski hat and there are crosses on it!

The colours are terrific and the pattern is wonderful! I know I must make this hat. Head Cosy is my name for it.
Kinda reminds me of a tea cosy with earflaps.
Great hat!

DARLING hat.
cross country is cute.
i also like the idea of invoking ‘chevron’ or ‘diamond’ or ‘grid’ (mayhaps gridlock?)

Reminds me of party streamers. How about something like “Party Streamers Earflap Hat”?
Oh, and my anti-spam word is ‘vicuna’. How awesome is that?

Ooh, very nice. It seems like it could be very unisex to me – maybe the Belfort Hat?

Well I think it would be perfect for my niece. My nickname for her is Bratty Girl (it’s a long story–she’s really a great 16-year-old). So I think you should call it the Bratty Girl Hat!

I love the hat and it made me think of the name Summit as it reminded me of a mountain range. Plus, I think it would do a great job of keeping my head warm on the top of a mountain!
