weekend wrapup

July 26th, 2010

So, yeah, I announced I would be writing a book about mitten anatomy. Thanks for all the great comments! It sounds like this is something you’d be really into, particularly given the mix-and-match aspect of Part II and Part III, and the ability to knit a mitt to fit.

Now, I guess I better write it!

Catie asked how I would publish it. I think it depends on the length of the manuscript, but I’d intend to offer it as an eBook or PDF in addition to a self-published printed format. We’ll see. I’m mostly happy with the initial table of contents, so when I get back from vacation, I’ll set up a writing schedule and get working on it, a little bit at a time.

The neat thing is that I can see it all in my head. I feel like it’s going to be an incredibly fun project, that will hopefully help out a lot of knitters!

Speaking of vacation… Cooper’s doing really well and is completely back to his old self. He’s going for some hip xrays on Thursday just to make sure everything checks out, but he was given the green light for exercise so we’re off canoeing and camping on Friday for a week or so.

I haven’t begun to think about what I’m going to bring to knit. (Maybe mittens? Hehe.) For now, I know I need to finish up a deadline project asap. It’s a new design, and you’ll see it later in August. I’m working on the edging, which makes it sound like I’m nearly done. However, it’s a BIG, BEAUTIFUL, and BOLD edging. It’s taking a little while to work through.

In the meantime, I’m totally distracted by the idea of getting away next week. I’ve been getting some wholesale orders, and trying to organize all that, restock printer toner and paper and page protectors, finish up plans for the Year of Lace September and December, and well, take care of the rest of life in addition to working means that I could really use a little break!

Oh! I need to tell you this… Sandra is knitting another pair of Mod Quad Socks, this time in Silk Garden Sock color 84, the really pretty and subtle red/orange/green colorway. She’s completely obsessed, to the point that she JUMPED OUT OF BED at 7am, essentially to knit them. Crazy!

Well, have a great Monday!

I’ve been on a mitten binge the past few months. I finish a pair and think I’ve gotten it out of my system, but before long I’m casting on another pair.

I think your book is a great idea.

Glad to hear ol’ Coop is doing better. Fingers crossed on the x-rays.

I’d like to go on a mitten binge 🙂 I’m glad that you got a great response to the book idea – I look forward to seeing the product.

Can I just say that I am soooo happy to hear that things are starting to look up for you? I’m glad to hear that you are getting to play with so many knitting designs. I’m glad to hear that you will be publishing a book (something I have dreamed of since I was a little girl!). I’m glad to hear that Cooper is back to his old self and healing well.
I’ve only met you a few times in the sweater design class but you just struck me as a good person who does not deserve all the tough times that have come your way in the past little while! You most definitely do deserve a little R&R and some good news for a change!
Enjoy your vacation time with your lovely wife and pooches.
