a skirt savedCooper’s tail
I wouldn’t have believed it last month, but Cooper’s almost totally healed. When he hurt his hip a few weeks ago, he also magically forgot that his tail was itching or bothering him. So he’s left it alone. And even the fur is growing back slowly. You can no longer see the line where his tail had been shaved down for the surgery. You can’t see the scrape he took off with the edge of his first cone. And even the very tip, where the wound had stayed so raw for so long, is now just skin and a little fuzzy fur.
It’s been a heck of a summer for the poor guy, and by extension, for Jackson and us. When we couldn’t leave Cooper alone, Jackson didn’t get to go frolic in the park very often. And us? Well, you already know how many camping trips we’ve cancelled.
I’m not going to jinx it. But I feel like maybe, just maybe, things are getting better for Coop. He’s back to his old self, totally full of beans. He’s pushy and affectionate, and just wants to go play and be loved. He and Jackson tear through the house like in the old days. And I love all of it.
I think, at the time, I had just this vague concept of Cooper getting better. But it wasn’t until recently that I saw the real Cooper coming back. The crazy, hyper dog who gets into everything, who loves us more than anything… except maybe a good bowl of food.
Cooper’s feel much better now. And he thanks all of you for being so kind, for being so worried for him, and for all the positive thoughts and prayers.

I’m so happy to hear he’s doing well. What happened to him, and how long it took to get back on track was really awful, and I’m sorry you all had to go through it. But yeah. It’s looking pretty good, and I’m glad to hear you have your old dog back. Yay!

YAY for Cooper! I met another chocolate lab the other day and told them your Cooper story. We almost wept for him here in Sweden last week, so I’m very relieved and happy to hear he’s better!

Otis say he’s happy for Cooper…but really? It’s his turn to bring the beer to Pet Poker night.

Aw, bless. It’s awful when a pet is ill, but so wonderful when the signs of healing start to show. Hair regrowth–yeah, that’s a sign! If their body has enough energy to grow hair again, then that means healing is going well.
With rats, I often can gauge health by their appetite. Little Ira is definitely a senior rat now, and he doesn’t get around so good, and can’t always groom himself, but when I put a bit of mac & cheese or pudding in his dish, he still goes crazy for it!
