Finding my groove

October 2nd, 2014

Maple Grove

As the mother of a (newly) six month old, I’ll be honest. As wonderful as it is, and as much fun as we have, I’m still struggling to find a groove in our days.

Awake time is filled with nursing, diaper changes, meals (we’re doing BLW), and play. And there are naps too. Carly is taking 3 solid naps a day now, and often goes 2 hours at a time – if you don’t count my one or two trips up to put that dang pacifier back in. I’ve worked it out so in the morning (like now), I shower and get ready for the day. I undo the dishwasher, shove a load of diapers in the wash. I play with Cooper and Jackson a bit. I catch up on email. And if it’s a particularly long nap, I do 10 minutes of Something Else.

During the other naps, I’ve been trying to spend time crafting. Sandra and I got into a Christmas Craft Sale at our church, so I’ve got a lot of sewing to do. And then there’s the knitting and pattern design. The list is pretty long right now.

But still, even though I should have about 2 or 3 hours of ‘me time’, the time goes by so quickly, and I feel like I can only get one thing done. Some days, that includes getting the camera out to take some pictures for a new pattern. Some days, that includes editing the photos.

Yesterday, that One Thing happened to be writing up and sizing the pattern shown on Carly. I’m calling it Maple Grove. It’s knit in one of my all-time favourites; Lorna’s Laces Lion & Lamb. Carly’s size – the 12 month – takes a skein and a half, leaving plenty for a matching hat.

I love this gauge for babies. Worsted knits up so quickly (it may still fit by the time you cast off!) and just looks a wee bit chunky when worn.

Maybe my thing for today will be finishing up the pattern layout and getting this pattern posted.

Or maybe I’ll just cast on for another one.

Yesterday, while I was at work, my sister stole my iPad and tested to see if it can survive a 40
foot drop, just so she can be a youtube sensation.
My iPad is now destroyed and she has 83 views. I know this is totally off topic but I had to share it with someone!
